As I mentioned, he was satisfied with his work.
The unsatisfying thing was something, which had nothing to do with his work.
No birds, no bucks, no beetles - no animals at all.

The window was as clean as it could be - it could have been a mirrow - as I have mentioned before, already. ;-)

Was it the end of his shift?

Did he check the time in a reflected clock from a church tower opposite and it was later than usual and he stepped back, thinking 'shit, is THAT the time?'

Was he unsatisfied with the way he himself looked?

Was he working alone?

Is it important, where the building is?

Is he very high up?

Kittyyyy, heeeeelp :)

Your getting very close to the solution of this riddle.

Let me answer only the important questions, all other points are not important or simply "no".
He wasn't sure, if he was satsfied with the way, he looked. (very good point!)
It is important, that he stood high up. That means higher than 50ft (hope that this is round about 15m :-).

(One foot is about 30cm (you can check that with a ruler and a foot of yours *g*), so 15m would be about 45 feet, roughly.)

Hmmm. I think the whole time that I have heard this one before but I can't for the life of me remember. :)

Did he THINK he was lower down?

He didn't like the way he looked, hmmmm... Was it something to do with his clothes?

Did he look different from the other days he usually does this job?

Or was it the first time on this particular job?

Or didn't he like something that he saw in the background?

Round about 50ft is O.K., 60 would be better and 70 ft are more safer - for this riddle.

Did he think, that he was lower down?? - Nice thought.
Let me say, he hadn't in his mind, that he was that high (maybe he was used to work high above the ground, and it wasn't his first day).

No no no!! He liked the way he looked. But he wasn't sure, if he was really satisfied! Maybe his hair, maybe his clothes, that's not that important.
Don't mind about the background.

Did he look BETTER than usual? :)

Ok, when he stepped back, did he expect to just step back onto level ground?

Why did he step back again? Because of surprise? To get a better look at himself? Because something scared or startled him?

Why is it "Safer" to be higher up?

Did he break his neck when he landed?

You mentioned all neccessary points.
He wasn't sure about the way he looked.
He stepped back, but had not in mind, that there was a gap.
He fell and broke his neck.

I hope it is O.K., that told the solution in this way.
But after that we can close this thing.

Solution? I still don't get it. Why was there a gap?
What was he unsure about? Why couldn't he 'make sure' about what he wasn't sure about without stepping back? Why did he forget about the gap?
:)

Should I continue asking questions?

Why was there a gap? I can't answer this with "yes" or "no"! :-P

What was he unsure about?
Zitat:
He wasn't sure about the way he looked.

Why couldn't he...? Again nothing for the "yes and no"-thing.
But keep in mind, that he wasn't sure and stepped back.

Why did he forget about the gap. - Yes.
Or let me say he forgot about the gap - that's a point.

Ok ok! He wasn't sure about the way he looked! I get it!
Did he have something weird on his clothes?
Was he bigger than usual? Smaller?
Wetter? Drier? Older? Younger?
Is he cleaning windows on these big skyscrapers?
Is he in one of those electric crane thingies?
Today, at this job, does he work on a different type of platform and that's why he doesn't know about the gap?
Still don't get the whole 70feet thingie. So sometimes he works on higher buildings, but maybe not?
Is it his first day and usually he only works on the pavement, cleaning shop windows?

He wasn't sure about the way he looked - just like you and I, when we pass a big window.
No special cause or reason.
Maybe he is cleaning the windows of a big skyscraper - but a hight of 70 feet will be enough for this riddle.
Let us agree, that he usually works high above the ground. So he did today.

So, does he usually stand on a scaffolding?

Or is usually in a harness with a rope?

Or in a crane-thingie that moves up and down?

Did he work on a different system today?

Poor guy, by the way... :(

Don't mind, about his working platform.
He was used to all the stuff and he has never worn a harness with a rope!

Poor guy, he is.
