I just finally managed to convince Kelvarhin to join us. She is a very dear friend of me who I meet at TORn and lives in Australia. She has just started to read HP, so I thought it might be fun to know what she thinks about it :)

As she doesn't speak more than a few words German (so far!), I've made a new forum to talk English.

Dear Kelvarhin!
It's great to have you in our midst, have heard a lot of good things from Kitty.
The best greetings towards down under, I love your home country! (and countrymen... *g*)

Yours,
dead dog
(oh, and don't be taken aback by my name, I am very un-zombie-ish. And we won't tell you just now, what my name means!)

Hi Kelvarhin, nice to meet you.
Yes, it would be nice, to hear from you, what you think about HP.
As far as I have time, I will re-read it, for getting a little more used to the HP-stuff, again.

Yes, Kel will have to wait a bit to learn more about your name ;) I still miss the old one, though.

I could imagine you two might have a lot to talk about Australia. And maybe you can finally convince her that a bit of snow is much better than 35°C in the nonexistent shadow - she absolutely refuses to believe one can survive in temperatures barely above zero ;)

So used to the boards in TORn and viewing in threaded mode all the time, so not sure if I'm replying in the right spot or not. :-|

Thanks for the Welcome everyone. It's great being here.

Still a bit nervous, as Kitty knows, I'm not overly self confident.

Umm dead dog LOL, sorry keep thinking of road kill *g* I live in the country so we see a lot of that, usually kangaroos sadly.

I've heard lots of lovely things about you from Kitty too, so it's great to finally meet you.

Google, well I'm only just finishing the first book, so I'm very new to HP, know much more about LOTR. Kitty is educating me *g*

Cheers all

There's only *one* spot to review - we don't have threaded mode, only flat mode. When we moved the forum, we had the option to switch to threaded - BUT then we'd lost all old posts, so I declined. And with so few, it's not really a problem to keep track of who is answering to whom. We simply use @name if we are replying to something particular that's not in the last post but in an earlier one, or quote. At least here you will not have to catch up on a few hundred posts when you have been away for a day or two ;)

As I read HP-PS the first time, I was a little surprised, that the story until he got to Hogwards was quite long.
At first a mysterious start with strange people and a cat who does not behave like a real cat, than the nasty time of Harrys youth.
Thousends of letters and then the journey to the small island in the storm.
It was quite a long way to go until the story "starts" for my opinion.

Yeah I felt that too, felt that in many ways she over emphasised his time with his aunt and uncle.

She really could have shown how horrible his life was before he got to Hogwarts in a lot less chapters.

And the bit with the island in the storm was just strange.

But then I guess it was her first novel, will see if she learnt from it in the second... which reminds me I need to get back to the library and get it out :D

@Kelvarhin: Maybe it will make sense a bit later, why she emphasized his childhood 'horrors' so much. *g*
Kitty says I should tell you about surviving in snow... well my fiancé spent a good time of his life in Townsville and always believed that he would die, if the temperature went below ten degrees. Teehee... He now goes out without a jacket when it's six, claiming that it's 'balmy'!!
Oh, and I love your tigers!
And speaking of roadkill... that always reminds me of this stall on Mindil Markets in Darwin "The roadkill Café - You kill it, we grill it!" :o)

@Kitty: what on earth is threaded mode? :)

In threaded mode posts aren't showing up one below the other like here, but you can answer to a certain post in a thread, and creating a subthread with that. I think that was how HaD worked, at least back in the good old Phönixfeder times.

Looks like that:

LOL sounds like he had the same opinion as me, we think it's cold here if the temp drops below the teens, it rarely goes below zero and it's never snowed. Hubby was born in England and he's always told me it looks pretty but it's cold and horrible.

I'm sorry but 6C is not balmy!!! That's freezing. ;) You guys are never going to convince me.

*giggling* yep that's Darwin *g*

Yeah I love them I also use them in the TORn forums, so not surprisingly I've also gotten a nickname on top of my Kelvarhin nickname of Tiger over there LOL

@DD: See how stubborn she is? ;)

And one of the TORnsibs has taken to calling her kitty. Quite confusing, I can tell you *g*

:-P ROFL, and you know *just* how stubborn I can be *eg*

Yeah but if that one ever calls me by the other cat name again I'll bite him.

Can't see what's wrong with Kelvarhin or Kel *giggles* afterall the Tiger thing only started as a joke between me and another sib who I started calling Birdie. Took off with everyone else though *sighs* Isn't that always the way *g*

Oops got to run, my meeting starts in 20 minutes.
